Out with the old, In with the new

Well, Its December 31st, and its the last day of 2011, and I just wanna take the time to go over some things that happened this year and to some goals and other things Im looking forward to this upcoming year.

In 2011 I :
  • Graduated High School and went to my top college choice, Savannah College of Art and Design.
  • I sucessfully completed my first quarter at SCAD
  • I was accepted into the Disney College Program which was step two in my lifes ultimate goal
  • I made some very amazing new friends at school
  • I got to see a different side of my family, somethings for the first time and somethings that have happened before. But either way I am stronger now than I ever was before.
  • I lost a friend
  • I won 3 more fantasy championships, adding my total to 8 championships
  • The Mets still sucked and the Giants didnt do anything but give me a heart attack
  • I went to Disney world twice along with a few other great parks
  • I got to go to bermuda, a place where my parents have waited a long time to take me and my sister
  • I continued my domination in wiffleball
  • I grew up... a lot.

In 2012 I look forward to and want to set the goals of:
  • Working at the Disney College Program, which is a lifelong dream come true
  • Get straight A's at college
  • Find even more great friends at school to add to an already great cast of characters
  • The new Matchbox 20 album
  • Seeing my sister and family when I return from college
  • To see my family when they visit me while I work at Disney World
  • Be less shy and more outgoing
  • Get better at art
  • Either get an apartment at school or become an RA
Most important I look forward to what God has in store for me. Each and everyday I learn to live life in a whole new way and I learn to trust him and what he has in store for me. He has opened so many doors for me and has given me a taste of what is to come but only with hard work and determination will I get there. 2012 brings a new year a new year of life, love, and new experiences to take in. 2011 had its ups and downs, but I know whats coming in 2012 and I can see that God has a few amazing things in store for me.

See Ya In 2012

Cause I can see the shadows
At the foot of my door
I can see the faces
That don’t doubt us anymore
I can see it coming
I pray I don’t go blind
In the middle of our reckoning time

A Thank You Letter...

Dear Art Teachers of Ridge High School,

Four years of hard work and this is where I am. I'm on my way to college. I just wanted to take the time to thank you for all that you did for me during my four years at Ridge. I first want to say without you I wouldn't be on the path that I am on now. If you never told me that I wouldn't get anywhere with an art career I prob would be sitting thinking about other careers to peruse. Instead by you telling me that I was no good, or giving me unfair grades, I gained the much needed confidence and drive which has lead me to attend one of the best art colleges in the country. Part of being a teacher means that you don't put students down, but instead bring them up. But instead by you thinking that you were bringing me down you brought me up without knowing. I would like to say there were three or four of the the overpaid art teachers that I didn't mind and did help me to work to a dream I have always wanted. On the other hand a few others were of no help and made my time in class less enjoyable. So I just want to finish by sending my thanks to you for all your useless teaching and help that I didn't receive in my time in school with you. And one day when I get the job that I have dreamed about for years, we'll see who is laughing at who.

With Much Love and Appreciation,
Justin Martin

Imagineering 101: Soarin' over the World

As you may have heard. This idea had been thrown around the rumor mill and hasn't seen to much light from Imagineering. Weather this ever was to come to be or not in my last trip to WDW I was able to come up with a ride that may make Soarin' even more popular than it is now.

Entrance:
Same look Soarin' sign and all stays.

Queue: As you walk through Concourse 82, you notice many different flight gates. The gates have different destinations from around the world. Also the line will include art deco style posters, advertising the many different destinations around the world. The interactive games are re-themed to make the area feel more like an airport. Over the PA system is airport announcements like flight delays, cancellations, safety announcements similiar to the ones that you would hear in an actual airport. The idea is to simulate an active airport concourse.

The Loading area:
This area remains close to the same. But also adds a little new themeing that is similar to the new Queue area. The blue lights stay. The video remains the same. The ramp that leads to the preshow area is changed to resemble a Jetway that leads to the airplane.

The Ride:
With the new technology that is now used in Star Tours 2 which allows for random destinations will be used. The entire show is changed. Before boarding your destinations will be pre-selected by the computer. While in flight you may experience France, Mexico, Italy and America. And the next ride may include, Germany, Spain, china, Australia. At the end of the show, you can continue the same idea of ending at a Disney resort. With having many different Disney resorts around the world (Hong Kong, Tokyo, Paris etc.) the ride can end the same way with flying over a different Magic Kingdom.

In the end it is very similar to Star Tours 2 but expands on real life destinations.

Let me know what you think and any ideas or suggestions you may have.

Thanks Everyone

The Last Lecture

Interactive Waiting Areas

So since Disney is trying to make all the ride waiting areas interactive, I thought I would make one for one of my favorite and one of Disney's classic attractions, Big Thunder Mountain!

So I was on vacation at the world yesterday and I remembered how BTM has possibly the worst line to wait on other than PP. So as i was waiting i was thinking of what could be done. Here is what I have, its not a lot so i need help on more ideas...

So the two things i have both take place by the opening "window" areas that face the mountain. The "window" area on the right side facing the ride i thought they could add something similar to the SM line. Have a game. Now here you can have a shooting arcade like thing. You have a pistol and u shoot at different targets on the mountain and such and they trigger different effects.

Second the left side of the line facing the ride by the "window" area. There is the water area of the ride right at the end. Here is where you can get some of the riders a little wet. Along the window edge there would be the TNT dynamite boxes. Like the ones that you push down the lever and it would make something explode. Well here guests push down on the levers and bursts of water explode all around the track. I know this would just entertain a small portion of the guests waiting but its a start!

What Drives Me...

You got a dream... You gotta protect it. People can't do somethin' themselves, they wanna tell you you can't do it. If you want somethin', go get it. Period.
Will Smith - Pursuit of Happiness

I have had many people tell me that I couldn't get into art. Wasn't good enough, they told me that I would never get into a top art college... Well guess what... I did. When people tell me I cant do something, that is what drives me to do even better so I can show them wrong. So to everyone out there. Go ahead and tell me I cant do it. Because I can, and I will

College Choice: SCAD vs. Ringling

So the question I have been getting has been why SCAD? Why not Ringling? Well let me tell ya why.

Both schools are great schools, but in the end I had to choose one. To me both schools where the same. They had a great program, great student life, great people, great teachers ect. But when I looked at it there was one thing that made SCAD stand out... Location. Now both are in the south but what I mean by location is the surrounding area. SCAD is in the beautiful city of Savannah. It has been rated as the USA's top 10 most beautiful city's. It has hundreds of shops and restaurants to go to. Now I understand Im there for school, but i need things to keep me occupied for four years, and thats something Ringling couldn't offer. At Ringling, even if I had a car Im an hour from Tampa and 2 hours from Orlando and 4 hours from Miami. And the only thing that appealed to me in the area was the beach. (But how many times can I go to the beach?) Also Ringling seemed to be more of an animation driven school where as SCAD appealed to all majors not just one.

So in the end I had to pick one and I did. SCAD. I will always have a place in my heart for Ringling but I just couldn't see myself there. And I am very excited to get started on my classes this September!

Significance of 23: 23

So Whats The Deal?

23… What’s so extraordinary about it? Really, it’s just a number right? So what if it’s the same atomic number of vanadium, or maybe that Michael Jordan and Don Mattingly’s number was 23 when they both played there respective sports. Or that Julius Cesar was stabbed 23 times?  Or is it that the avogadro constant is written as 6.02214179(30) x 10^23. (10^23? Interesting…) Or is it something more? To me, 23 mean everything. Without it I don’t exist, you don’t exist. Every human has 46 chromosomes, which are 23 sex chromosomes from each parent. To me, without 23, I’m non-existent. I’m not here today.
By now your most likely thinking I’m just some insane person rambling on about a stupid number. And I wouldn’t condemn you for thinking that. But 23 is special to me because, well, without it, the 23 sex chromosomes from both my parents may have never formed to create me and who I am today and October 23rd, 1992 could have just been another typical day. On that cold morning on October 23rd 1992 I entered the world. At that moment, the sun stood still for just a few moments as it welcomed me into this new place I would call home. I took my first breath and braced for what my life had planned for me. And now only 18 years later, I have learned and experienced so much, that I couldn’t hold all of my life’s reminiscences to myself. I felt that I needed to share them with the rest of the world for everyone to hear. I’m Justin Martin, born on the 23rd of October, and this is my story of who I am and how I came to be.

Significance of 23: Disney?

D23 was introduced on March 10, 2009 by Robert Iger during the company's annual meeting in Oakland, California. The name D23 refers to Disney and 1923, the year the company was founded. The goal of D23 is to communicate with Disney fans by "placing them in the middle of the magic."[1]
The major components of D23 include a Web site, Disney twenty-three (a quarterly publication), yearly member gifts, member events, member exclusive merchandise, and the D23 Expo, a Disney fan convention dubbed "The Ultimate Disney Fan Event".[2]
At launch, D23 featured one level of Charter Membership for $74.99. For 2010, D23 introduced two levels of membership featuring different prices. Charter Memberships became Gold Memberships, and a $34.99 Silver Membership was introduced which included all the benefits of Gold with the exception of the quarterly publications "Disney twenty-three."
The D23 Web site features comic strips, breaking Disney news stories, event information, "This Day in Disney", and a "Walt Disney Archives" section, where visitors can view some rare pieces of Disneyana.
Starting August 2, 2010, D23's website added a new page called "D23's Disney Geek", a weekly video newsmagazine hosted by Jeffrey Epstein of D23 about the latest news from the Disney universe. That day also saw the site's slightly new overhaul, with a new slogan—The Official Disney Fan Club—and mascots Chip 'n' Dale. On November 9, 2010 a new weekly sister web-series titled "Armchair Archivists" premiered. Hosted by Steve Czarnecki & Josh Turchetta, 2 Disney employees (and D23 members) who showcase assorted treasures such as props, costumes and lost film clips from the Walt Disney Archives to the viewers.

Significance of 23

Some of you may be wondering why 23? Well in the next few days your gonna find out... But while you wait here is some cool things that have to do with 23...
Topic: 23 in Sports
*Credit to Wikipedia

The number 23 has been retired for quite a few prominent athletes. Michael Jordan wore number 23 when he played professional basketball with the Chicago Bulls and, later, the Washington Wizards -- except immediately following his comeback from baseball, when he wore number 45, and for one game in the 1990-91 season against the Orlando Magic when his jersey was stolen and he wore the number 12. Australian cricketer Shane Warne wore the number 23 during his career; Don Mattingly of the New York Yankees wore number 23; the New York Yankees retired the number in 1997. Ryne Sandberg, of the Chicago Cubs, wore number 23, which was retired on August 28, 2005. Bob NystromNew York Islanders wore number 23 and has had the number retired in his honour. Bob Gainey, ex-General Manager and former player for the Montreal Canadiens, had his number 23 retired February 23, 2008. Nathan Scott, a prominent basketball player in the American television serial One Tree Hill, wears the number 23 on his jersey. Zack Greinke, the Cy Young Award Winner in 2009 wears the number 23. of the
As a tribute to Michael Jordan, David Beckham chose 23 as his shirt number at Real Madrid, and subsequently at LA Galaxy.
Manchester City F.C. have not assigned the squad number 23 to any player since 2003. This is because Marc-Vivien Foé, the player who collapsed and died while playing for Cameroon on June 26, 2003, had held this squad number at Manchester City. Club Brugge KV, a Belgian football team, has done the same when their number 23, François Sterchele died on May 8, 2008 in a car accident.
Former Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James also wore No. 23, simply due to the fact that Michael Jordan was his favorite sports hero growing up, and that his game was patterned after him. Upon joining the Miami Heat in 2010, James abandoned No. 23 and switched to No. 6 (incidentally the multiplication number when 2 was multiplied by 3).
